![]() She'll tan my hide so bad I won't be able to sit down for a week. Even my 10-year-old son who came along as interpreter seemed bored by it all. I continue to be amazed at these bands' mass appeal. Cash Box called it a 'scratchy rap send up.' 1 Covers The Dave Matthews Band covered this song at Jones Beach, New York in 2013. The song is named after an alcoholic drink of the same name, which is mentioned several times throughout the song. The song features the Roland TR-808 drum machine. To me, the Beastie Boys (no talent, whatsoever) and Run-DMC (overrated, at best) speak a foreign language. Background It samples 'Bring It Here' by Wild Sugar. They played their hits "My Sneakers," "It's Tricky," a couple of other less-than-exciting rap numbers and ended the show with a tired, worn-out rendition of "Walk This Way" (with little, if any, help from the Beastie Boys). Other than that, however, Run-DMC wasted everyone's time. Run (Joseph Simmons) and DMC (Darryl McDaniels) told the audience to "say no to drugs" and praised the lack of racial tension (the audience mix was about 70 percent white, 30 percent black) at the concert. ![]() MCA obviously not too happy to be here kept trying to sing the song "Oklahoma!" in a mocking tone, only he was unable to remember any of the words.Ĭompared to the Beasties, Run-DMC was a class act for a short while. The other two Beasties didn't exactly act like choirboys. ![]() Most of the suds, though, were spilled onto the stage or tossed into the crowd. brewskis (yes, I counted 'em) during the Boys' 45-minute show. Mike D., whose main talent seems to be opening a beer can with one hand, went through 13 12-oz. The Beasties Mike D, MCA and King Ad-Rock (they have real names, but let's not embarrass their families any further) seemed more preoccupied with talking dirty than performing, however. 1 song, "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right." ![]() The Beastie Boys took the stage first, singing all of their big hits from their Licensed to Ill album "No Sleep Till Brooklyn," "She's Crafty," "Paul Revere," "Brass Monkey" and the band's No. My Mom would wash their mouths out with soap. It was the Beastie Boys (an all-white rap group) and Run-DMC (an all-black group) who acted like heathens. In fact, it was one of the few concerts I've attended where the crowd acted better than the performers. Here is some more: First of all, there was no violence Thursday night. Trouble is, all that bad press is well-deserved. The members of Run-DMC always talk about all the bad press they get for how their concerts are handled. I decided to see what this rap music was all about. I would become a prisoner in my own home.ĭon't tell Mom, but I was at the Myriad Thursday night, at the Run-DMC/Beastie Boys concert. If she only knew where I was Thursday night, she would hit the ceiling. ![]()
